The American Flyer K5363WS 1953 Rocket Freight Set, including the K5363W variant, is a vintage train set that has both pros and cons for potential buyers.
Pros:1. Authenticity: This set is a rare and valuable piece of American Flyer's history. It offers a unique collector's item for individuals who appreciate vintage toys or are enthusiastic about American Flyer trains.
2. Quality: American Flyer was known for its high-quality products, and this set is no exception. The craftsmanship, detail, and durability of these toys are often praised by collectors.
3. Investment potential: As a rare and well-made vintage set, the value of this American Flyer train set may increase over time, making it a potential investment for some collectors.
Cons:1. Limited functionality: Since it is a vintage set, it may not be compatible with modern train tracks or accessories. This could limit its use in a play setting or display.
2. Maintenance: Vintage toys require care and maintenance to keep them in good condition. Paint may chip, parts may break, and servicing the set could be difficult, especially if replacement parts are hard to find.
3. Expense: Given its rarity and collectible status, this American Flyer set can be quite expensive. Some collectors may find it difficult to justify the cost, especially if they plan to use the set for play or display rather than for investment purposes.
Ending conclusion:The American Flyer K5363WS 1953 Rocket Freight Set is an excellent choice for collectors who appreciate vintage toys and American Flyer's rich history. However, given its limited functionality, high cost, and maintenance requirements, potential buyers should carefully consider their reasons for purchasing this set before making a decision. If the set is being bought as an investment or for its historical value, it could be a worthwhile purchase. On the other hand, if the set is primarily intended for play or display with modern accessories, potential buyers may want to consider a more compatible and affordable option.
All of the others are quite nice and need nothing more than a light cleaning. The reverse unit works as it should and the headlight in powered unit, but not dummy. This is the track with Bakelite roadbed and I do not see any cracks, chips or breaks in of sections. I see nothing cracked, chipped, broken or repaired on the diesel units any of cars.
The Pull-Mir wheels appear to be in excellent condition and the set shows what I would call only light moderate usage. I say most of the time, because will, on some occasions, ship in previously used cartons and may reuse other types packing materials, which best suit item being shipped. The tube for the whistle controller has some corrosion on it, please see photos. I have been chasing collecting old toy trains since the 1960s and I'm still looking for them today.
I have not tested any other lights. The sort of static sound from the Air Chime Whistle crackles when you first put power to it, so I would imagine that system is intact, but have not tested whistle or controller. I am selling this AF Chrome Rocket Train Set as-is, as-found. Just today, a fellow came by my place with this Rocket set and I just could not believe it.
What you see is what get. There are no corrugated wrappers. I've been around for a while a LONG while and I have dived into my last dumpster looking shipping cartons. All the proper screws are holding bodies on diesel units and very honestly, it looks as though have never been removed since set left factory.
Both motors run very strong and almost crazy quiet. All of the cars are complete with nothing broken or missing. The box of curved track is full with 12 sections and in similar condition to the six straight tracks shown, I just didn't have enough photos show it. One car, the 936, shows slight deterioration of gray paint on top deck, please see photo.
The only thing I have done, is to give the TWO MOTORS a shot of contact cleaner, so could test them. I sometimes use USPS Priority Mail shipping cartons as well. What a beauty, in the 1953 only CHROME finish!, I have not even dusted this train off. All the original boxes are complete with all flaps and NO TAPE REPAIRS!, Other than above , I am selling this set based ENTIRELY on photos, so please look them over carefully.
